Meet Samantha Shoemaker but you can call her Sam. She is a taller girl, with darker blonde hair,
and light blue eyes with glasses and the most contagious smile. This school year, she is entering the
second year of her high school journey and has chosen to take journalism. She is such a diligent
individual as she manages to find a balance between her academics, social life, work life of scooping ice
cream, and her athletic career by being a part of the C. Milton Wright women’s volleyball team. She is
someone who values the truth, so if she is given the facts, she is capable of creating a captivating story. If
you had to describe Sam using only one word, it would be outgoing! She is always willing to chat with
someone or exchange a friendly hello, yet so relatable to take an extra second to just listen and be there.
No matter what, Sam is always willing to try something new as she lives her life with the mentality that
“you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. Sam will never settle; she continues to go the extra step
never worrying about the “what if”? The greatest lesson she was taught is that you should never take
anyone for granted knowing that everyone serves a purpose in this world. Living life with that mindset
has helped her to find her partner in crime, her person, the girl she can be herself around, her best friend,
Grace. Together the memories are endless. Sam was asked what animal she relates to most and she chose
a butterfly. At a younger age she felt sheltered and restricted like a caterpillar, but life has taken her
through many seasons to help her hatch from her cocoon and release her wings to grow into this beautiful
butterfly full of life and appreciation.
