Four years. One set of jerseys. Now, the Girls’ Varsity soccer team finally will have a fresh new look. C. Milton Wrights girls’ soccer coaches announce to their players that varsity will be receiving new jerseys. This means the JV team will be given the varsity’s old jerseys, also giving them a new look.
Now for the hardest part. Varsity always has to have better EVERYTHING than JV, so the big challenge is making the Varsity jerseys better than the old ones that JV will be getting. The previous Varsity jerseys were classic. The home jerseys were a C. Milton Wright patterned blue. The collar was V-neck and white and black. They looked clean and elegant. Now the task is to upgrade those jerseys to be next level.
The company used to create the new jerseys is Yorktown. The girls’ soccer coaches will provide them with a jersey design, usually inspired by a college or pro team. Trending styles right now include bold patterns & colors, collar styles, sustainability, and cultural & heritage links.
To get an inside take about our lady mustangs new jerseys I interviewed a math teacher, and assistant varsity women’s soccer coach here at CMW, Mr. Gunter. I first asked how often the team gets new jerseys and he answered, “They get new jerseys every 4 years.” When asked about the previous jerseys he said “I thought the last jerseys were okay. I like the players to have a say in what they like and it’s good to have a change.” Lastly, he left off with this quote “Look good. Feel good. Play good.”
I also interviewed upcoming senior Nani Milich to get some opinions on what she would like the new jerseys to look like. When asked about what she would like the jerseys to look like Nani said, “I want the new jerseys to have good details and look really put together making them look tough and the best jerseys we have had yet.” There is a lot of pressure with picking the best jerseys. Nani also added, “I think we could add some new factors in like starting with the cut of the shirt to the background color and design. Also, little add-ons that will make them all look better.” Lastly when asked if she will miss the old jerseys she answered, “Yes definingly, even though it’s just a shirt and pair of shorts it has so many memories that come along with it. Not even just individually but years of memories of different people all wearing the same jersey.”
Fall sports will be here before we know it, and this year the Varsity girls’ soccer team will step on the pitch in a brand-new style. As a player on the team, I can’t wait to see the incredible design we come up with! For now, it’s time to wait for the release of the new jerseys. And if you want to see them, pop out to a girls’ soccer game this upcoming fall.
