This month, we are excited to showcase Ms. Cox, a loving Chemistry teacher at C. Milton Wright High School. An amazing member of the CMW staff for twenty-five years, Ms. Cox only currently teaches Chemistry and AP Chem. Her passion is helping students understand that chemistry is hard BUT…it’s the foundation for the life they build. She wants them to leave with real and cool information to take for life outside of high school.
Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Cox was a scientist for a government contractor. She helped to work on the development of a biochemical detector to be used by soldiers on the battlefield. Though she never wanted to be a teacher, after having children she believes teaching is where she was supposed to be. Therefore, her journey into education began.
Her favorite class to teach is obviously all chemistry classes.
Outside of school, Ms. Cox can go for walks, play golf, and read. And of course, spending time with family is her favorite way to recharge. With her kids all grown, she treasures every opportunity she gets to see them as well! She doesn’t indulge often…but when she does, she goes all in. Anything ice cream with chocolate is the best! No contest.
Ms. Cox’s inspirational line to say to her students and live by is “Persevering through difficult things is good for the soul.”
Ms. Cox is a terrific example of what it means to be both a dedicated teacher and a person who inspires others to grow. We’re lucky to have her at C. Milton Wright! Go Mustangs!
