Prom is an event that everyone gets so excited for, one event all parents tell their kids to go to no matter what. Many students plan months ahead and dream about it since freshman year. Well that day is coming up soon, May 16th to be exact. This year many people have talked about the new event place that is being used this year to hold it.
Prom is being held at Top of the Bay at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. This has caused some drama between students due to needing multiple months in advance on if you are coming or not. Due to being held at APG, they need security clearance to get on base. Many people have expressed frustration with this and finding it “unnecessary”.
According to an anonymous student, they said, “It’s stupid because all these kids have to get security clearance for a one time thing.” This shows that the general population find this very inconvenient and given that high school relationships are not always the most stable. The tickets have already gone on sale but the tickets are due by February 28th. With there being three months until prom many relationships might not make it that long. Highschool relationships are not the strongest and often end over trivial reasons. With this thought in mind, why would you make the registration for three months before, it seems like a poor move to some people.
The new location despite it being in a weird location does have many perks. It is a place meant to hold large events for military personnel. The location is quite pretty being right on the water. It is a large building with not one, but two dance floors. Going back to that water front location, what would that be without a deck overlooking the water so you can go out and relax looking at the water.
With all the cons of it being on APG, it is still a very pretty location. It is not uncommon for schools to hold events here with them listing on their website that it is also for school events. While many people do not love having to get clearance with multiple months in advance, it is a very nice place and should still be a great and memorable experience.
