This month, we are excited to showcase Ms. Plaisted, a loving English and journalism teacher at C. Milton Wright High School. An amazing member of the CMW staff for four years, Ms. Plaisted currently teaches English III (American Lit), Journalism, and Life Skills Drama Movement. Her passion includes helping students find their “voice” and/or their interests, which she uses in every lesson she teaches!
Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Plaisted worked as a Yoga/Fitness instructor. Her time as a fitness instructor was spent focusing on others’ health, but she soon realized her true passion was in teaching, and she was already teaching fitness, so she had the experience of teaching. She wanted to teach her classes because she loves reading books, plays, and poetry, and she overall loves literature and the writing process. Therefore, her journey into education began.
Her favorite class to teach is all of them! Ms. Plaisted loves all her classes for different reasons! She loves to teach American Literature because she gets to talk and teach them about her favorite authors and books, but she also loves to teach the Life Skills kids drama in her movement class!
Outside of school, Ms. Plaisted is a lover of the outdoors. Whether it’s running in a local triathlon or teaching her yoga classes or just average things like traveling and hiking, she finds peace and inspiration in nature. Her coworkers surrounding her in the English Department she says, motivate her every day to do better and try new things especially with the interesting things the teacher’s do like Ms. Christ being a DJ or Ms. Weirs creating and selling jewelry!
A quote that Ms. Plaisted often refers to is one that helps with her personal and professional values: “Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” -John Muir. She is drawn to the idea of taking chances that benefit others even if a few of them are hard chances, which she does both in her classroom and in her life.
Ms. Plaisted is a terrific example of what it means to be both a dedicated teacher and a person who inspires others to grow. We’re lucky to have her at C. Milton Wright! Go Mustangs!
