At C. Milton Wright we share positivity. This year The American Sign Language Club wants to
share their positivity in a way many people communicate. Multiple people run the club. President
Anouk Janssen, Vice President Aden Taylor, Secretary Lily Kutcha and Communications
Manager Kaelyn Farneth. ASL is more than just American Sign Language. They aim to spread
awareness to those who may be less privileged than the majority when it comes to
communication. Their intentions are to “strive for a world where everyone can communicate
with each other, and it is not a struggle for people to exchange a “good morning or “thank you.”
Want to join ASL? ASL club will be held every other Monday, so make sure you mark your
calendars! During those meetings, there will be power points of what those Presidents are
planning to teach for that meeting. They will usually go through the power point and do visual
demonstrations as it helps many students to process added information. ASL is also planning to
play some games to help practice such as Kahoot. There will also be handouts at these meetings
for students to help practice on their own and show off those skills that they learned and better
communicate with others.
Reasons why you should learn ASL is so key in the life we live in. It offers numerous benefits.
Firstly, it enhances communication by allowing you to connect with the deaf and the hard-of-
hearing community and to promote inclusively and understanding. Secondly, learning ASL can
improve your cognitive abilities, such as memory and spatial awareness as it triggers various
parts of the brain in positive ways. Also, ASL is a valuable skill in various careers, such as
education, healthcare, and social services, where it is amazingly effective. Overall, learning ASL
opens your life to new experiences and connections with others.
Our American Sign Language Club is more than just a place to learn a new language; it is a
community where we celebrate diversity and building meaningful connections. By embracing
our ASL club, we not only enhance our communication skills but also open doors to
understanding the deaf. Let us continue to grow, learn, and support one another as we journey
together through the world of American Sign Language. Please join the C. Milton Wright ASL
Club. It will change your life, and you will gain multiple new experiences.
