As February begins, love is in the air in C Milton Wright. Valentines’ day is the perfect uplifting holiday amid students’ seasonal depression. A holiday with a theme of platonic and romantic love is a light in the winters cold dark. Showing appreciation to people you care for is what Valentines Day is about. As stores begin to put out candies and stuffed animals for Valentine’s day, it leads me to wonder; how will the Mustangs be spreading kindness and love this month?
In the search for positivity amidst seasonal depression, I have been collecting some insight from different friends around the school to see what Valentine’s Day means to them or what they are finding positivity and joy in this month. A commonality across the Mustangs was the importance of friendship. “A common misconception about this holiday is that it can only be celebrated by those who are in romantic relationships, which is completely false. On Valentine’s Day you can celebrate all types of love whether it is romantic or platonic. Whether you are single or in a relationship, valentine’s day is beautiful and a day to express love.” Added Carter Marshall (Junior). “My plans for Valentine’s Day are to order a heart shaped pizza and tell my friends I love and appreciate them by ordering candy grams to surprise them.” Carter plans to make sure her friends know their loved and participate in self-love by treating herself to a nice dinner. That’s what valentine’s day is about! Now that we’ve examined the Juniors valentine’s day plans, how about the Sophomores? “Valentine’s day is about being with the people you love and celebrating love with them.” Eleanor Marschhauser (Sophomore). “My plans for valentine’s day are having a dinner with my friends and everyone being together.” Based on the continuing theme of friendship, I’ve successfully answered my question and can conclude that the Mustangs are stressing the importance of kindness, friendship, and self-love this February in the spirit of Saint Valentine.
In conclusion, Valentine’s Day is a beautiful holiday with a very fluid meaning up to your interpretation. Whether you take that as romance, friendship, or kindness is your choice. But one thing is certain; the C Milton Wright Mustangs hold a deep sense of community and love for their friends. Your life is what you make of it, spread love this February and see how much better your life becomes. Happy Valentine’s Day Mustangs, and do not forget to be kind.
