In the words of singer Dean Martin, C Milton Wrights halls are like “walking in a winter wonderland”. What better way to spread Christmas spirit throughout the school than festive door decor. Every holiday season something students come to look forward to is the C Milton Wright staffs Christmas doors. The iconic doors are part of something bigger, a school wide contest for the best Christmas doors. Who decides the winners? Students like us! It’s time we all get excited to pick the winners, make our list, and check it twice.
After careful consideration, the Pony Express has decided to compile our own personal door decor nice list. The Christmas doors must meet 3 criteria to be on the Pony Express nice list. Effort, detail, and Christmas spirit. Essentially, Christmas spirit is creativity with Christmas themes. For example, a reference to a popular Christmas movie. This point will be earned through anything that envelopes the spirit of Christmas. I invited Aniston Miller (Current events writer, photographer) and Jordan Naggy (Current events writer, sports writer) to help decide and pick who makes the nice list this year, so let’s jump right into our top 3 picks.
Third place
In third place, we have Mrs. Ackerman’s gingerbread village. This door includes 3d elements that took a lot of effort; the individual designs on the gingerbread houses are full of detail, and a gingerbread village is the perfect example of a door with Christmas spirit. Overall, the door scored…
Effort: 8/10
Christmas spirit: 9/10
Overall Mrs. Ackerman’s door scored 25 points out of a total of 30.
Second place
In second place we have the special education door, and the life skills doors. The 3d singing elf with our very own teachers’ faces was by far my favorite part of the door. The reference to elf was very creative and a perfect way to incorporate an iconic Christmas movie into their door. The life skills doors were a naughty and nice list with all the life skills kids listed. It is such a cute way to incorporate all of the students into their Christmas decor, which is a perfect use of our Christmas spirit category. Overall, life skills and special education doors earned…
Detail: 8/10
Christmas spirit: 10/10
These doors end with a collective score of 28 points.
First place
Last but certainly not least, we have Mrs. Martinek’s gingerbread house! This door earned an absolutely perfect score. The use of her classroom features, like the out cropping above her door and the indentation her doors located inside of made the gingerbread house look so much more realistic. It went beyond the door, even with peppermints and candies on the floor like a gingerbread houses path. Overall, Mrs. Martinek scored…
Effort: 10/10
Detail: 10/10
Christmas spirit: 10/10
C Milton Wrights’ very own winner voted by all the students was…. Ms. Gurrera! Her door was made by her homeroom kids and features a beautiful light design with all of her students strung across it! It’s a very festive door with a sweet way to intertwine with her students.
Every Christmas door was so beautiful and well put together. C Milton Wright students are beyond grateful to have teachers who put the time and effort into the simple things. Something as small as a Christmas door can bring joy to the world during the holiday season.
