As this month closes out, football playoffs have begun for us. C-Milton Wright has not been a historically great football team, not winning a playoff game in 27 years. This year, they are looking to make history. With a poor track record of winning playoff games, this team has high hopes of winning a playoff game. This team has been good all season and even though they have struggled in the last few weeks, they still have high hopes to make a deep playoff.
In the first playoff game, CMW played against Eastern Tech from Baltimore. CMW took a commanding start to the game and never let go. From the first whistle to the last, CMW played their hearts out. This was more than just a regular game to this team, this was history being made. This team has two division commits going to Temple and Vanderbilt. This talent pool as well as other notable players not currently committed anywhere but has potential to commit in the future is a game changer for a program that has struggled for a while to win playoff games. The coaches also have been a big help for the team, helping lead the squad to a 5-4 record.
Against Eastern Tech, CMW made sure to bury their opponents, winning in a commanding 36-15 win. Eastern Tech is a team focused on the run, which the Mustangs were able to stop. Eastern Tech did not have a good passing game, so when forced to pass they struggled to make plays happen. There were a couple small plays that took place which allowed Eastern Tech to score 15 points.
After beating Eastern Tech, CMW faced a much tougher opponent in Carver Vo Tech. This game would be played at the Under Armor stadium in Baltimore. Carver was a talented team with many playmakers, giving the Mustangs a good fight to win. The game was a close one, ending in a final score of 14-17. The Mustang defense fought hard to keep Carver at bay, but they would let up two touchdowns in crucial moments when they needed to keep Carver out of the endzone. By halftime, CMW was down by 4 points. They would kick a field goal going into halftime that would end up changing the game for the Mustangs. In the third quarter, they would score a touchdown to go up by 17. In the fourth quarter there would be many mistakes by both sides which would lead to no scores by either side. In the last drive for Carver, they would have a big pass that would put them past the 50. Even with this big play, on fourth down, they would attempt to throw the football which would end in two of our D1 commits crashing down on the quarterback, ending the game on a sack .
All and all this team has really come together even through the injuries and suspensions, they have continued to fight through these issues. With multiple players hurt, torn ACL’s, MCL’s and other problems, they were counted out going into the playoffs, but this team shocked everyone and won not just one but two playoff games and are on to a third game in Huntingtown MD which is over two hours away. Even through the adversary CMW continues to fight to make noise in the playoffs.
