Elementary school education is essential to teach the younger generation about the world. Their education is important so they can learn all the why’s and how’s in the world and use it to bring change. The only problem is that elementary level sciences don’t go into the kind of depth these children deserve. What better to teach kids about science than a STEM night, teaching highschoolers in-depth science skills, while giving kids a preview for possible future careers.
Science NHS has been hosting an annual stem night every march to teach the kids at feeder schools for C Milton Wright more in-depth sciences. On March 4th of 2026, elementary schoolers in our area will come to C Milton to watch science experiments in the cafeteria and learn about the whys and how’s behind the results. The fun part is the science experiments are performed and chosen by the students in science NHS. The kids participating in stem night will move from station to station. Every experiment is run by partners in the science NHS, and they are responsible for teaching groups of elementary schoolers about their science experiment and demonstrating it for them.
What’s everyone’s plan for the STEM night? What made them choose that experiment, why do they love it? In my STEM night preview, together we will find out all the details and what to expect.
It’s important to appeal to kids on a STEM night directed toward them, a great idea is the “Physics theme park”, by Kayla Parker (Junior). “I love physics, I want kids to see how it applies to things in real life.”. Using a Lego theme park and basic physics principles, Kayla is demonstrating physics principles in an exciting way. My group went with a tastier approach, science in combo with candy. Me and Maylee Lazzaro (Junior) are performing gummy bear osmosis. “The kids will be very excited about gummies.” Maylee added.
Science NHS is very proud of the work put into the STEM night every year. The knowledge it provides to children is priceless. I hope this article encourages rising juniors and seniors to join, or to continue membership. If you are interested in any future career in the STEM field or just science in general, I strongly encourage you to join the C Milton Wrights chapter of the Science National Honors Society and be part of the STEM night.
