Teenagers do not mediate, which is a shame. Meditation has been known to cause lower
stress and better emotional regulation. It’s a very good thing, and it is now possible to
meditate in school too. Ms. Christ’s meditation after-school program is called “Say Less
Mustang Meditations.” Ms. Christ was inspired by her job working at Loyola Blakefield where another
teacher would invite people to go to the chapel and everyone would be quiet. Which she
describes now as peaceful.
The meeting takes place in Ms. Christ’s room from 2:10 to 2:17, and the only people there
were me, Ms. Christ, and two other teachers. The meditation was good and calming and
was over faster than I thought it would be. I felt kind of awkward being the only kid there. It
would benefit greatly from people my age going, though that would be hard, because a lot
of kids leave before 2:00, and they would have to find a way back to school. I had to run
back to school and sneak in at 2:00 to get into the club.
The overall experience of Ms. Christ’s meditation was a net positive to my life. It was
bizarre meditating with no other kids and having to sneak back into school, but I would
encourage people to meditate, so I would encourage people to check out the club.
