The Pony Express

As the school year ends, so does the 23-24 year of Wright Athletics.  As a school we’ve had some great athletic accomplishments. I have compiled a spring wrap up and will send an end of year wrap up tomorrow morning.  Thank you to all the staff, admin, custodians, and support staff who volunteer their time, help coach our programs, announce our games, take tickets and support our athletes in the classroom, it couldn’t be done without you!

Baseball

Ending the regular season 9-6, the lost to North Harford in the region quarter finals.  They graduated some great senior athletes this year. Seniors Keither Cochran and Tommy Cannavale were both invited to play in the UCBAC All-Star game.  First Team – Tommy Cannavale (utility, senior) Second Team – Keith Cochran (outfield, senior).

Boys’ Lacrosse

9-3 in the regular season, 2-1 in the playoffs, they lost in the state quarterfinals to Glenelg (current state champ).  They were the 2A North 1 Regional Champions, defeating Sparrow’s Point (final) and North Harford (semi-final).  Lead by Coach LeBrun who was named US Lacrosse Coach of the Year for HARCO.  We have several athletes named All-county by the Aegis: First Team – Justin Eckman (midfield, senior) ,  Dylan Sander (LSM, junior) , Hayden Goscinski (defense, senior).  Second Team – Gavin McCullough (attack, senior), Zachary Brown (midfield, senior), Aiden Whitmore (SSDM, senior), Brandon Stepp (defense, senior), Kyle Ashman (defense, junior).

Girls’ Lacrosse

7-5 in the regular season, 3-1 in the playoffs, they lost in the state quarterfinals to Manchester Valley.  They were the 2A North I Regional Champions, defeating North Harford (final), Sparrow’s Point (semis), and Patapsco (qtr).  Several athletes ended the season with county accolades.  First Team – Winslow DiPeso (defense, senior) Second Team– Samantha Wolfkill (attack, junior).  Shelby Sullivan (senior) was named WLAX Aegis player of the year with over 200 career goals.

Softball

8-8 in the regular season, 0-1 in playoffs with a first-round bye they lost a hard game at Elkton for the region semi finals. First Team – Izzie Youngworth (pitcher, sophomore), Second Team – Julianna McJilton (outfielder, freshman) Maddie Youngworth (catcher, senior)

Tennis

With new head coach Mitchell McMichael the varsity tennis team was 4-5 regular season. They are the 2A North I Regional Champions.  Xavier Moaddel went to states for boys’ singles and Caroline Galant & Brandon Flynn mixed doubles. Both lost graduation morning in the state quarterfinals.

Track & Field

Led by Coach Mickey in his final season the track team did very well this year.

Boys: 1st place in the Susquehanna Division, 3rd place in the UCBAC, 4th in the region

Girls: 1st place in the Susquehanna Division, 5th place in the UCBAC, 6th in the region

Ellie Bassham (senior) won region titles in the 1600 & 3200 the team had 3 relays qualify for states and qualified 25 athletes in 11 events, a huge improvement from last season.

All State Athletes – Ellie Bassham (senior) 3rd in 1600 & 3200,  Timi Kolawole (senior) 3rd in high jump, Landon Krepps (junior) 5th in 200 meter dash, Ayden Demetrakis (senior) 6th place in 800 meter, 4×800 relay finished 6th place (Ayden Demetrakis, Thomas McNutt, Peter Donarum, Matt Ritz)
