St. Patrick Day Shenanigans

Green Weekend Activities in and Around Bel Air

St Patrick’s day is coming! When you think of this holiday, you probably think about a lot of green! But have you ever thought why? Why do we wear green on St Patrick’s day?

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, who is known for bringing Christianity to the country. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th because it is believed to be the day St. Patrick died. It has become a day to honor and commemorate St. Patrick’s life and his contributions to bringing Christianity to Ireland.

We wear green on St Patrick’s day to honor and show our Irish spirit. St Patrick was associated with green because it was believed that he used the three-leafed shamrock (which is green) to explain the Catholic idea of the holy trinity, God the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Green also represents Ireland, the emerald isle, and over the years has become a symbol of Irish pride.

People often go to bars to celebrate this holiday, which offer special drinks and themed events. It is a popular tradition to have fun, socialize and enjoy the festivities. This gives people a chance to gather with friends and family, wear green, and join in on this Irish celebration.

Das Bierhalle on main street is having their first annual Das Paddy’s Day celebration on Saturday March 16th. Go down for brunch (8am-12pm) and happy hour (2pm-5pm).

The HOPE center of Maryland is having a St Patrick’s day celebration fundraiser at the TUNE Center (Towson University North East) on March 16th, at 6pm-10pm. An evening full of activities, live music, food and a parade! General admission is $40. And all proceeds go directly to the HOPE center of Maryland. Donations will be used to support their Beyond Blessing program that provides weekly meal bags to at risk school age children.

On St Patrick’s day weekend, Newberry is selling special St Patrick’s day cookies.

You can join Cary and Megan Kerrigan for their annual St Patties celebration on March 16th (6am-7am) at the Bel Air Dance Academy. 30 minutes of cardio then 30 minutes of strength. And don’t forget to wear your green!
