Currently ranked as Netflix’s top show, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen has just recently released. Produced by The Duffer Brothers, who are the same creators behind the hit show Stranger Things, this show takes a different approach by focusing more on psychological horror, mystery, and drama.
The eight episode limited series follows Rachel and Nicky, a couple who are getting married in a couple of days. While preparing for the wedding, Rachel and Nicky stay at Nicky’s childhood home, which leads to a series of events to unfold. During the couples stay at the house, many things happen that cause Rachel to question her identity, including her love to Nicky. Instead of creating horror from things like jump scares, this show focuses on building up a slow suspense throughout all the episodes. The show was created by Haley Z. Boston and stars Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco, who play the engaged couple.
To gather more opinions on the new series, I interviewed Katelyn Reimert, who is a student at C. Milton Wright. When asked about her first impression of the show, she stated that “I first saw the show pop up on Netflix and decided to watch it when I found out The Duffer Brothers produced it.” When asked about her overall opinion of the show, she said that “I enjoyed watching it and found it difficult to get bored, but I do think it was less scary than others said.” Finally, I asked how she felt about the ending, she stated that, “I found the ending to be somewhat of a plot twist but it didn’t end how I wanted it to.”
Just in the first week of release, this show received 28.3 hours of viewings. It is currently holding a 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.8/10 on IMDb. If you are looking for a show that will hook you in and makes you binge watch it all day, I would say Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is the show for you.
