In Megan Moroney’s earlier albums, she introduced fans to heartbreak, but now Cloud 9 explores a lighter side of healing and maybe even an unfamiliar feeling of happiness. On February 20, 2026, Megan Moroney released Cloud 9. The album includes 15 songs and features Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves.
Some of the most popular songs on the album include “6 Months Later,” “Beautiful Things,” “Who Hurt You?,” and “Wish I Didn’t.” I also put a poll in last month’s edition for students to vote for their favorite song. “I Only Miss You” and “Beautiful Things” tied for the win. Megan Moroney’s Cloud 9 album is extremely popular, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 from the chart dated March 7, 2026. It had 147,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Cloud 9 also symbolizes the biggest week for a female country artist since April 2024. The album had 76.3 million first-week streams.
Megan Moroney’s past albums, Am I Okay? and Lucky, were characterized by feelings of sadness, as she calls the genre “emo-cowgirl.” She focuses on heartbreak, and there are deep emotions behind her lyrics. Cloud 9 is a more upbeat country-pop album. Her songs are still emotional, but this time they carry a sense of healing.
To get an inside take on the album, I interviewed a senior here at CMW, Annabelle Lathroum. Annabelle is a huge fan of Megan Moroney and listens to her music often. She attended Megan’s concert last year and had a blast! When asked about her opinion on Cloud 9, she said, “At first it wasn’t my favorite because the lyrics felt a little cringy and not well written, but after I listened a couple more times, it really grew on me!” In comparison to Megan’s other albums, Annabelle said, “I think it’s a really good album, just not her best. I like more country albums like Am I Okay? and Lucky.” Annabelle also said, “It is definitely a mix of emotions, but I like that because there are songs for every moment!”
Overall, like most things, there are mixed opinions about the Cloud 9 album, with some listeners finding it peaceful and mature, but others thinking it lacks in comparison to her previous albums. The only way for you to know is to give it a listen! So the next time you’re bored on a long car ride, put on Megan Moroney’s new Cloud 9 album.
