Fx Networks’s new show Love Story is a romance biography following the lives of the closest thing to American royalty: the Kennedy family. Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. were considered the It Couple of the 1990s in New York. The show stars upcoming actress Sarah Pidgeon as CBK, and model Paul Anthony Kelly as JFK Jr. As the title suggests, Love Story tells the story of their relationship, following from their first meeting, to the early stages of their romance, to marriage. John F. Kennedy Jr. was the son of the late President John F. Kennedy, whose assassination remains one of the most defining moments in U.S. history. This assassination had many effects on America, and it was a large thing for JFK Jr to have loomed behind him from the start. According to C Milton’s very own historian, Mr. Brogley, impacts were countless, and the motives were easily assumed. “I cannot speak for Lee Harvey Oswold, but I can assume motives based on his history; Oswold was an open communist” says Mr. Brogley, “One can only assume the motivation was he saw Kennedy as a threat to the communist way of life.” Mr. Brogley explains that “The assassination of JFK caused a lot of Americas to lose their sense of innocence and optimism for the country,” he adds “When you look at the way the rest of the 60’s played out, President Kennedys murder woke people up to the reality we don’t live in such a simple society and some people will respond to disagreement with extreme violence.” With lots of history behind him, JFK Jr. lived in the spotlight. As he reached adulthood, he quickly became a central figure in New York’s social scene, gaining recognition as a rising assistant district attorney and prominent socialite.
CBK- An overview
Carolyn Bessette was a true East Coast girl. She grew up in New York and Connecticut before attending Boston University. Even before becoming a fashion icon, Carolyn had an effortless “It Girl” appeal—she even modeled for The Girls of B.U. Although she initially studied elementary education, naturally she gained an interest in fashion, beginning her career as a sales associate for Calvin Klein in Boston. Her timeless style, beauty, and elegance were quickly noticed, and she was soon offered a position at Calvin Klein’s New York flagship store where she became a celebrity sales representative, Working with elite clients—a role that would eventually introduce her to her future husband, and ironically, lead to the tragedy that ended her life.

Carolyn and John first met in 1992 in the Calvin Klein showroom where she worked, during a fitting for JFK Jr. Their romance didn’t truly begin until 1994. A year later, in 1995, John proposed during a trip to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The couple married in 1996 in an extremely private ceremony- with only 32 guests. However, their relationship soon received intense public pressure. Rumors of marital problems—including speculation about affairs and divorce—spread rapidly throughout the nation. For a couple under a magnifying glass, constant media intrusion made their private lives even more difficult.
American Tragedy-
On July 16, 1999, just barely over a year after earning his pilot license, JFK Jr. was piloting a Piper Saratoga light aircraft with Carolyn and her sister Lauren Bessette onboard. The conditions were hazy, making it easy for pilots to become disoriented. Professionals speculate that Kennedy lost control of the plane, which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all three passengers; Lauren Bessette, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and John F Kennedy Jr After a five-day search, their bodies were recovered. This sent widespread grief across America. The loss left President Kennedy with only one remaining living descendant. The string of tragedy surrounding the family coined the term, “The Kennedy Curse.” The three were cremated, and their ashes were spread off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, which was also the site of John and Carolyn’s engagement and the intended destination of their final flight.
