The Grammy’s happened and I have some thoughts about it. I personally think that multiple people were snubbed by the Grammy’s. For example, The Weeknd he’s played for the Grammy’s but never got big prizes, such as Album of the Year or Song of the Year. Although yes, he’s gotten four Grammy’s which were Melodic Rap Performance in 2022 for his featured vocals in Kanye West’s song “Hurricane”, Urban Contemporary Album in 2018 for Starboy which was made in 2016, R&B Performance in 2016 for his record-breaking After Hours til Dawn tour, and lastly Urban Contemporary Album in 2016 for Beauty Behind the Madness which was made in 2015. This year The Weeknd should have won an award for his 2025 album Hurry Up Tomorrow, but he didn’t. He wasn’t even nominated. He’s one of the people who was snubbed by the Grammy’s.
Notice how I said, “He’s ONE of the people who was snubbed by the Grammy’s.” Well, Billie Eilish was another person. She created her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. That album was a big hit and was amazing. She deserved to win Album of the Year in 2025. But instead, Beyoncé won with her album Cowboy Carter. Now don’t get me wrong; Beyoncé is a well decorated artist, but she didn’t deserve to win that. Billie Eilish’s song “WILDFLOWER” wasn’t nominated for a Grammy in 2025, but it was nominated for Song of the Year this year. Now I’m so happy for Billie Eilish and how she finally got a nomination for that album, but I feel that she deserved winning Album of the Year in 2025. She worked so hard on that album and poured her heart out. She was so heartbroken by not getting anything for her album.
Another person who was snubbed by the Grammy’s was Tyler, the Creator. This year Kendrick Lamar won Best Rap Album for GNX, but I personally feel that Tyler, the Creator, deserved it more. Chromakopia was such a good album and had so many hits on it. It was so raw. GNX was only popular for dissing Drake. So, Chromakopia should’ve won over GNX.
Now let’s talk about people who I’m happy who won. Bad Bunny won Album of the Year. I may have not understood all the words to his music, but I can tell you he did earn that award. He had such a successful year. I mean he played at the Superbowl for the Halftime Show and it was so beautiful.
I interviewed a student here at CMW, he doesn’t want to put his name out there, but he is a junior here. This is what he had to say, “In my opinion grammy’s need a rule change. A good example is this year, Billie Eilish released her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT May 17th, 2024, and it was grammy eligible for the 67th grammy awards, however she didn’t win any awards for her album being nominated for album and song of the year but falling short of both. However, Billie released her song “WILDFLOWER” as a single February 28th, 2025, which was originally from her album from the year prior. This let “WILDFLOWER” eventually go on to be nominated for song of the year at the 68th annual Grammys and won over songs like “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga and “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar. You should not be able to re-release a song and be able to be nominated for a grammy. The song technically passed its period of eligibility after 2025 and still won a big grammy award the year after. The acceptance speeches this year were really empowering and important, such as Bad Bunny’s and Billie Eilish’s messages regarding ICE. It shows that celebrities and musical artists have the ability to speak out. It let me know that I’m support the right people.”
In conclusion, a lot of people have been snubbed by the Grammy’s. There are probably other people who also have been in the same position that The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Tyler, the Creator has also been in.
