Oscars 2026 Preview

As the 2026 Oscars approaches, there is a significant amount of conversation about which movies will be awarded by the Academy. This year, the Oscars will occur on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The Oscars will be airing on ABC and streaming on Hulu at 7 P.M. for watchers to enjoy at home.

While there is a total of 323 films that are eligible to be chosen across all the awarded categories, there is only a small amount that is up for multiple categories. These movies include Sinners, which is up for 16 nominations, One Battle After Another with 13 nominations, and FrankensteinMarty Supreme, and Sentimental Value, which all hold 9 nominations. Some of the major categories include Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. To go along with the number of films that are up for awards, there is only a small portion of actors and actresses who are nominees, which is 20 of them in total. This includes five nominees each for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

To gather more perspectives on this topic, I interviewed Jernee Dennis, who is a student at C. Milton Wright and has watched multiple movies that are up for the 2026 Oscars. When asked about her favorite movie from the line up, she stated that “My favorite movie that was nominated would definitely be Sinners. The hidden meanings and whole storyline I think definitely made it really good.” She was then asked which actor she thinks will be awarded the best, and she said “Timothee Chalamet” because “not only was his acting in Marty Supreme good, but before the movie he had been training and preparing for his role for months.” Finally, I asked how many Oscars she predicts Sinners will win, which has been a big topic of conversation for this year. She believes that “Sinners might have 3-4 Oscars.”

While there are high stakes for this year’s Oscar’s, it should be an enjoyable watch with comedian Conor O’Brien hosting them for the second year in a row. Whether Sinners dominate the Oscars or different movies surprisingly win instead, it will be a satisfactory show either way.
