It’s not easy being a kid. There are a ton of things going on, between trying to keep up with grades, friends, and sports. It is tough to find a balance. Going to school for seven hours and then going to practice is absolutely exhausting… and then adding another club practice to your schedule can be brutal.
I interviewed Sophomore Kat Duracka and asked her a few questions. I asked her how she felt about this topic and she said that she “feels tired all the time because of high school and club sports.” Kat plays for Coppermine Soccer Club outside of school. I also asked her if she ever does high school and club sports at the same time and replied yes. Kat does Coppermine soccer in the spring and winter. On top of that, she participates in Winter Track Spring Track for C. Milton. Kat says that she gets tired more in the winter and spring because of her schedule, but her grades don’t tend to drop. My last question for Kat was if she liked doing both club and high school sports and she said yes because she likes having something to do after school.
This is an important topic to discuss because students need to find a balance between their social lives, school life, and sport life, especially when they are playing two sports at once. Some ways I maintain balance are doing homework when I can on the weekends like studying early for a test so I can go to bed earlier on weeknights. Finding balance is key to being successful in the areas you want to excel in.
