If you like Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher, or Lizzy Caplan then you should like the movie franchise Now You See Me. There are three movies out so far, Now You See Me, Now You See Me 2, and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. They are all extremely good movies, but I’d say Now You See Me 2 wasn’t the best of the three. Although it was a great film, it just didn’t grab my attention like the first and third did. The third movie was my favorite by far, I did tear up at one point, but the movie really gets you excited. At the end of the third movie, it does leave you on a cliffhanger, but there will be a 4th movie and I’m extremely excited for it. The genres of these movies are comedy, thriller, action, heist, suspense, crime film, and detective fiction.
In the first movie Now You See Me, there is a team that calls themselves the Four Horsemen. The team consists of J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, and Jack Wilder. They all play specific roles, and they play them well. J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) is an arrogant illusionist and the ostensible leader of the group. Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson) is a hypnotist and mentalist who is the oldest of the group. Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher) is an escapologist and the only female member of the Four Horsemen. Jack Wilder (Dave Franco) is a sleight-of-hand illusionist and the youngest member. All these characters use their talents to steal from corrupt business owners. All while 2 detectives chase them down. But in Now You See Me 2 Henley Reeves is replaced by Lula May (Lizzy Caplan) who is an illusionist, adding another woman to the male dominated franchise. She was the replacement of Henley because Henley was pregnant during the film. But the cool part about that is Now You See Me: Now You Don’t she fills in this plot hole by stating she was pregnant during the events of the previous movie. In the movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t all FIVE Horsemen get back together to further their robin hood roles. Which is pretty cool. Everyone thought that Henley and Lula didn’t know each other so it was shocking that they did know each other. I’m not going to say anything about Morgan Freeman’s part in these movies because I’ll basically spoil the movie. But he’s a big part of it.
I interviewed some people, but this quote spoke to me more. “These movies are always fun. The concept is still there. Over the top magic and the new characters show the progression of the new generation along with the old generation. The story is senseless like the others, but the whole point of the film is to focus on Magic and illusions, and the directors did a fantastic job doing this. People are expecting realistic scenarios and movies like this is for people who just want to turn their thinking hats off and just have fun.10/10.”
These movies are extremely entertaining to watch and will keep your attention. The movies really mess with your mind, which I really enjoy. While all these films play with your head, the first one did it best. If you like a movie franchise with memorizing visuals that keep you guessing, then this is perfect for you.
