Week 1: Havre De Grace
Our CMW mustangs varsity football played Havre De Grace week 1 and
unfortunately it did not go how we hoped. The first drive started out nice, going all the
way down field and scored a touchdown to put us up 7-0. But after that the defense let
up a 1 play 60+ yard rushing touchdown. After that the team was not playing to their
best ability. Havre De Grace capitalized on us not being prepared for the run game.
They ran the ball for over 100 yards and a couple touchdowns. They beat us 35-14, a
rough start to the season
Week 2: Edgewood
Unfortunately we lost again, starting the season 0-2. On the plus side, the game was
close with us even holding the lead at one point. We played them close all game, but
then disaster struck with 7 minutes left in the game. Edgewood broke off 3 big
touchdowns and a couple of 2-point conversions to give them a 40-20 lead at the end. It
shows we have some promise this year, but we need to really focus on the next week
coming up Chesapeake.
Week 3: Chesapeake
Another loss has been put in the books leaving us with a 0-3 record. After driving about
an hour and thirty-minute drive, they stepped onto the field ready to take home the first
win of the season, unfortunately that is not what occurred. When the game started, we
drove down the field scoring a touchdown, then got a big stop on defense. That
offensive drive was the best we would have all night. The defense kept on coming up
with big stops until they let up 2 big touchdowns. The offense could not respond, not
scoring a single point in the 2 half. The final score was a 14-10 heartbreaking loss for
our football team.
This month has been rough for our team. We have our next game vs Elkton, and
we hope to come back with a win and take control for the rest of the season. It’s been a
rough start but the season is not over. Due to every team making the playoffs, we will
have a spot, but we just have to get a better record and pick up some more wins
hopefully turning our season around for the better.
