Wrestling is a sport like no other with its requirement of rigorous training and discipline within an individual. Wrestling is an individual sport, physically draining and emotionally exhausting with the continuous battle against yourself and your opponent. The victory rests solely upon yourself with the self-determination you ignite to prove yourself better than the match before. Devin Sweeney, Junior here at C. Milton, is one of the captains of the Varsity Wrestling team. He has been a wrestler for 12 years.
As the season begins the Mustangs are unstoppable with a winning record 2-0 against local team, and with a significant victory of 1st place at the Battle of the Boro. Individually he begins the season with an overall record of 8-1 with the personal achievement of taking 2nd place at Battle of the Boro. Devin strives for greatness as he has an own personal goal of becoming an individual state champion. When it comes to match time, Devin has some pre-match rituals such as locking in with the song Victory by P. Diddy and Notorious B.I.G and getting a sprite from his aunt before every tournament. Wrestling is a sport composed of not only physical strength but mental strength, Devin is on the rise by remaining calm and confident in the heat of the match as he remembers to keep faith in himself and his own abilities to succeed. Devin values being a part of a tight-knit group of guys and is hoping for team victory of a dual state championship. The season is just beginning with many difficult matches left to face, but Devin is looking most forward to War on the Shore, one of the biggest most competitive High School tournaments in Maryland.
