A Fabergé egg is an elegantly crafted, jeweled egg made by the House of Fabergé. According to NBC News, on November 28, a 32-year-old man was found with swallowing a Fabergé egg pendant. This event occurred at a Partridge Jewelers store in Auckland, New Zealand. The suspect was reported of trying to steal the egg but managed to swallow it before police arrived at the scene to place his arrest. The egg was discovered to hold a value of more than 33,000 New Zealand dollars ($19,000). A lot of attention was drawn to this case, considering it is crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and set with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires. It is also famously seen in the 1983 James Bond movie.
Once the suspect was arrested, he immediately received medical assistance and required people to monitor him while the egg was still in him. This ongoing attention went on for six days until the police made a statement that “no medical intervention was required and the pendant passed naturally.” The egg was still fully intact and even had both the chain and price tag intact. The name of the suspect has not been publicly released, but he made his first appearance at the Auckland district court on November 29. The suspect did not enter a plea to his theft charge but has later planned court dates where this may change.
