Ghost kitchens are becoming more and more popular. Many people may not know what they are, so I set out to find where some are located in Harford County and try some of the food they have to offer.
First, I feel the need to explain what a ghost kitchen is since some of you reading may not know. A ghost kitchen is a restaurant that prepares food exclusively for delivery and takeout, without a public storefront or dining area. I anticipated that the quality of food may not be as high quality as a sit-down restaurant, but I was looking forward to trying it.
The first food I tried was from It’s Just Wings. This particular kitchen was slightly ruined by how annoying it was just to get to Chilis, which is where it was located. This time of year, in that part of Bel Air is just packed with people trying to do last-minute Christmas shopping. So, It’s Just Wings was going to have to be pretty great to make up for how annoying it was to get. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. I had the standard buffalo wings, which were fine, but I forgot what it tasted like right after I finished eating it. I would give it a 5/10.
MLB Ballpark Bites was the next kitchen I tried, which was located in the IHOP next to the Raising Caines. I tried this one on a Saturday, and it was still just as difficult to get to with all the holiday traffic. When I got there, they gave me the wrong order. They sell nothing but hotdogs, but unfortunately, I was given the wrong hot dog. They gave me some weird pretzel bun hot dogs instead of just a normal hot dog. I was not impressed. It also did not help that the fries they gave me were cold and there weren’t enough of them. I would give them a 3/10.
Beast Burger was the most recent kitchen I tried. This was in Aberdeen at the Greene Turtle, and it was easy to get to. This place had a lot more options than the other two kitchens. I went there with my dad. I got a chicken sandwich, and he got a burger. The chicken sandwich was actually pretty good. My dad thought the burger was average. I don’t think we would go back, but I did give it a 6/10.
In summary, I was intrigued by the concept of ghost kitchens, and I was happy that I gave them a try, but I don’t think they can substitute for a sit-down meal at a restaurant. The quality of the food did not compare, and the options are pretty limited.
