Recently President Trump has deployed the national guard to major U.S. cities this move came in response to alleged uncontrollable violent crime and to support the ongoing deportations. The national guard has deployed in multiple American cities like Washington D.C, L. A, Chicago, and Memphis, Tennessee with an attempted deployment in Portland in response to I.C.E protests. According to ABC, the ninth circuit court of appeals recently overturned a temporary block on the deployment of the National Guard to Portland.
Trumps deployment of the National Guard has been controversial. The law that he cited to allow the deployment of the National Guard states that the law can only be used in the case of an invasion of the United States or the danger of and or a rebellion against the U.S government. However, many people, especially democrats, see the deployment as government overreach and the idea of rebellion against the us government as laughable. Many against the deployment have begun protesting in the nationwide “No Kings” protests on the 18th of October. These protests occurred in basically every major city, with nationwide attendance measured in the millions. Not everyone views the deployment of the National Guard negatively. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee welcomed the deployment at the request of the president. Showing just how controversial the deployment is.
