Education on topics that are hard and uncomfortable to talk about is important,
especially for adolescence. Thankfully, STARS is dedicated to raising awareness about
difficult but essential topics for all of C Milton. The suicide walk is an event STARS hosts
annually; it is extremely meaningful to members to prevent, help, and inspire.
What is stars?
STARS/SADD is a fast growing club within C Milton Wright. It is an acronym for
Students Take A Responsible Stand, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. This club
is behind many iconic events at C Milton, the biggest of which is the prom week mock
crash, but the first event hosted every school year is the STARS suicide prevention
awareness walk. Every student is welcome if they want to support good causes in their
school.
Why is this Event so Important?
As a member of STARS, this event is meaningful to me because people struggle
often quietly, and as a result become overlooked. Raising awareness can help prevent this
and make those struggling aware that someone is there for them. What does it mean to
other STARS members? “The suicide walk is very meaningful because it shows people
support, and that they are not alone.” says Lila Amos (Junior). “It brings attention to a good
cause that isn’t talked about enough,” added NHS president, Best Buddies officer, and Girl
Up secretary Kylie Bricker (Senior). Stars secretary Quinn Hare (Junior) told me, “Its
important to show kindness to everyone and let them know their supported”.

The Morning of the Walk
As the sun rose on the C Milton Wright track, students dressed in yellow met on
the track to walk and raise awareness. Local businesses donated donuts and bagels for
STARS members and other students in support. Friends took pictures, signed STARS, and
had a wonderful morning for a good cause.
Thank you to everyone who attended, helped, and showed interest in our suicide
prevention walk and raised awareness for such an overlooked topic. Education and
awareness is essential, if you know anyone struggling the suicide hotlines number is 998,
available 24 hours. We encourage you to join us for our next event. See you all bright and
early on the track again next year!
