NFL free agency has ended, for the most part. Teams have signed, traded, and cut many players this year, some players who are major pieces to their teams. We will be recapping the NFL free agency period and grading some of the big trades and moves this year.
The first big trade will be DK Metcalf, going to the Steelers. DK is a large overpowering wideout, “standing at 6’4 and 236 LBS, he is larger than most corners with a large catch radius. He is exceptional at catching 50/50 balls over the head over most defensive backs. DK had been a star for the Seahawks having three seasons over 1,000 rec yards and not having a season below 900 rec yards. The Seahawks traded DK for second and sixth-round picks. The trade was very surprising to most NFL fans with him being such a large piece of the offense. I give it an A grade for the Steelers and a B grade for the Seahawks.
The Commanders got two big name players in Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil. Both players are out of their prime and have issues. Deebo has not been the greatest since gaining a bunch of weight and Tunsil had problems with too many false starts last year. Even with these problems they are still both talented players with the potential to help this team improve even more. These trades also helped both the Texans and 49ers, getting rid of players they wanted to move on from. Texans got second, third, fourth and seventh round picks. The 49ers only got a fifth-round pick for Deebo. I give this an “A” for the Commanders, an “A” for the Texans, and a “C+” for the 49ers.
Free agency had its fair share of good pickups and trades. This next year has many big-name players that switched teams. These teams are hoping to improve at most positions to maybe start a rebuilding phase or to push themselves to the next level. Hopefully, next year most of these trades work out well enough for the teams that made them.
