On March 20th, here at C. Milton Wright the Chapter of the National Honor Society continued to value the power of reading as they ventured to 4 elementary schools around Harford County. This opportunity allowed the connection to spark between our Mustangs and the elementary school children, deepening their love for literature.
Before this trip, the passion for books was captured through a book collection. Gently used books that no longer served purpose to their previous owners were asked to be brought to Ms. Larson’s room. The Our Stories committee collected these gently used and new children’s books in order to be distributed to children at the designated schools throughout Harford County.
Through the act of reading, inspiration and connection is established. These little kids are filled with excitement when having one of our very own Mustangs read them a book of their choice. Not only does a friendship build but it further inspires their little minds to keep reading.
This one day will forever be remembered for the everlasting impact it will have on these young readers. The bonding time of sharing a book, and communicating on the importance of reading, sets a strong foundation for their future of learning. Reading to these little kids nurtures their further development and leaves them with a love for books.
Jordan Miller, senior, shares her heartfelt experience, “As someone who got to go on the ‘our stories’ field trip last year. There is nothing I look forward to more. The smiles on all the kids’ faces and memories that are made will be cherished forever. This field trip is always super rewarding as the kids have a blast and it makes us feel even closer to the kids in our community.”
Devin Sweeney, senior, highlights his appreciation towards the community, “It was an amazing experience; the kids were so happy to have us read to them! It meant so much to me to be able to make a direct impact on the youth of the community and was a beautiful experience!”
Thank you, Dublin, Hickory, Prospect Mill, and Fountain Green Elementary, for welcoming our Mustangs and creating such a wonderful experience!
