We all know that the Bel Air and C. Milton Wright rivalry is strong, normally some funny social media
jabs and high anticipation from the students, but when does it go too far? We got a good look at “too far”
at the previous Bel Air Vs. C. Milton Wright basketball game. Around 2 days before the game, harsh
comments between teams were exchanged, most stemming from the belairstudentsection Instagram
page and twitter, and the personal accounts of the players, targeting female basketball team members.
When game time finally arrived, peace was short lived. Vicious chants erupting from the
crowd caused the entire game to get shut down. When all students, from both schools, were forced to
leave the gym, tensions rose, and fights nearly broke out. Administrators like Mr. Siemsen and the
school’s deputy had to bring C. Milton students back into the gym until all the Bel Air students
had left.

Katie Milton, one of the targeted girls says, “I think that the CMW Vs. Bel Air rivalry is a fun competition
that brings a lot of energy to games, but this time the Bel Air students took it too far, which took the fun
out of the game, leading us having to be dismissed.”
But what were the consequences of this immature display of lack of sportsmanship? To my knowledge,
none. Despite using personal accounts and taking part in the highly cautioned against “cyber bullying”
that schools preach against, there were no consequences. I think there should been some sort of
discipline, like players being benched.
