Spoilers below…
Summer 2025 is starting to look up. On August 3rd, 2023, we got news that the beloved Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on the book series by author Jenny Han, is headed for season 3. Sadly, it has been almost 2 years since that time and we still don’t have season 3, and us high school girls have been dying for it to feel like summer 2023 again. And as of last month, March 2025, we got news that summer 2025 is finally the time to see which of the brother Belly will end up with…#teamconrad.
Let’s look at what has happened in the last 2 seasons.
Season 1 focuses on Belly’s transformation as she matures from a childhood friend to a young woman navigating love and relationships. Belly develops feelings for both Conrad and Jeremiah, leading to a complex love triangle that shapes the summer. There’s Susannah’s secret cancer diagnosis, which adds a layer of emotional complexity to the story. Then debutante ball serves as a pivotal moment, highlighting the emotional turmoil and decisions that Belly makes. The season culminates with a life-changing kiss between Belly and Conrad, leaving viewers wondering about their future.
Season 2 picks up the story after Belly’s kiss with Conrad, exploring her feelings and the challenges of navigating a complex relationship with him and Jeremiah. The Conklin and Fisher families face a new challenge: the potential sale of their beloved beach house, adding to the emotional turmoil. The introduction of new characters, like Susannah’s sister Julia and her daughter Skye, adds additional layers to the story, although some consider them unnecessary, according to some reviewers. Belly struggles to choose between Conrad and Jeremiah, leading to a season-long debate about her heart’s true desires. The season explores the possibility of a new romantic path for Belly, potentially with Jeremiah, and the impact on Conrad and the others.
Season 3 will likely follow the events of Han’s last book in her trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer. In it, Belly makes her choice between the Fisher brothers while she is in college at Finch University with Jeremiah, whom she dates in the third book. Will the show stay path with the book, or will it take its own turns? I can’t wait to see what ends up happening, let’s just say I’ll be counting down the minutes until summer 2025.
