Stage Wright's The Sound of Music

Stage Wright’s The Sound of Music

Play Review

Recently, I did an overview of C. Miltons, The Sound of Music play, and on Thursday, May 3 I went to see it.  First of all, I have to say, the stage crew and the actors did an amazing job, along with the band members who played live music. Every set change was fast and had no mess ups, all the actors were great singers and remembered their lines, and the live music made the play feel very immersive.

The actors really nailed their parts. Eliana DeVoe who played Maria, has been watching this movie ever since she can remember, so it was a perfect match. Other actors were fully committed to their roles, like Jake Homles who plays Franz. He had to do a really impressive accent for the whole two and a half hours.  Page Hangen perfected her singing voice for her role as Liesl. It wasn’t just these three though, every actor on stage was doing great. I actually thought I was watching the movie for a second.

In my last article, there’s a small recap of the story of The Sound of Music, as well as some interviews, so if you haven’t read that yet, you should go check it out.  Because Stage Wright didn’t want the play to be over three hours long, they did, unfortunately, have to cut some scenes, like the honeymoon for example. In the movie, Maria and the Captain go on a Honeymoon, but while there, they find out Max is preparing the children to sing at the Kaltzburg Festival and come home early. In C. Miltons version, this scene was cut. Even though they cut some scenes, it was still a pretty long play, so I wish that it started at an earlier time. I didn’t leave until 9:45 P.M.

Overall, the play was great, and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the next one!
