In the history of our nation, many have taken the roll of president, considered the most powerful position in the world by most, the presidents of our history were responsible for carrying though the success and failures throughout our history. Many have also ranked these presidents by the quality of their terms and whether they made a positive impact on this country. I’m guessing few have asked which presidents would make a good basketball team. I have taken the unique task of looking at every president throughout our history in hopes of finding the best 5 for our all-president basketball team. For context there are 5 positions on a basketball team (point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center). Each paragraph will cover what president I think would best fit each position on the court.
The first position I will be covering is that of the point guard. Also known as the “court general” the point guard must be able to understand the offense as well as be able to clearly communicate changes to the other players during the game. I think there is no better option than George Washington. The general of the United States army during the revolutionary war, he would have no issues leading the team down the court on offense and making call outs on defense as well.
The shooting guard position should be taken by none other than Barrack Obama. One of the youngest presidents of the modern era, Obama would have the speed and athleticism to guard any quick guards and wings as well as shake any 1 on 1 coverage on offense. I’ve also seen clips of Obama hooping and he has a nice pull up 3-point jumper. All these factors help make Obama a great choice for our starting shooting guard.
Moving on to the next position on the court, I believe that John F Kennedy was the best choice for the small forward position. Kennedy was known as one of the more athletic presidents amongst his peers, also his 6’1 height would make him a good all-around player, perfect for the small forward position.
The Power Forward choice was pretty easy. Teddy Roosevelt’s size and strength would make him an asset when getting rebounds and defending. Which is all I need my power forward to do.
Lastly, the center position should be played by Abraham Lincoln. Being the tallest president at 6’4, he would have the length to bring down rebounds as well as block bad shots. Lincoln’s extensive history with wrestling would also mean he would not be afraid to take on physical players under the rim. These two factors combined would make Abe the best center available for the team.
When looking at the history of presidents, not a whole lot of them stick out as great potential basketball players, but that never stopped me from trying to build the best possible team with what I had.
