The Sound of Music is a musical screenplay written in 1965, which was based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapps real life. This musical quickly gained popularity for its message, songs and overall joy. Many schools have done this play, but now its C. Miltons turn.
The story begins with Marias struggles of becoming a nun, but her four sisters decided that she wasn’t fit yet. They send her to the home of the widowed Navy Captain, Georg Von Trapp and his seven children to try and help raise his children. As soon as she gets there, she realizes that these kids do in fact need some motherly love in their lives. Over time Maria wins over the kids and teaches them how to sing, but while she’s taking care of them, Georg and Maria realize that they’re in love. They travel to Paris, but while they’re there, the kids back home are being prepared to sing in the Salzburg Music Festival even against their wishes, so the two end there trip early and go back to Australia to save the family.
Now, let’s take a look at some of our very own,C. Milton Wright actors:
Eliana Devoe
“I am playing the lead, Maria, which has been one of my dreams roles since I grew up on Julie Andrews. I’m most excited for the first act of the musical, because the energy between Maria and the kids is amazing. I’m most nervous about keeping track and getting the costume changes done in time. This is my fourth show with Stage wright, but I’ve also done shows outside of school. I got the role in January, but as soon as I heard we were doing this show I started getting ready. I came into rehearsal with my monologue memorized so it’s easy for the show, but it wasn’t that hard because me and my mom watch the sound of music every Christmas.”
Karleigh Freeman
“My role is one of the four main nuns, Sister Margaretta. I’m most excited about being on stage with my friends and getting to practice after school. I’m most nervous about the audience and being in front of everyone. This is my first show ever and it’s quite an experience, but I hope to do it again. I’ve been working since the first week of January and we should be done rehearsing by the beginning of April.”
Sebastian “Sebby” Baur
“I play the captain Von Trapp an ex-navy captain. I’m most excited about the serious and emotional parts of the show. Theres plenty of heartbreak and struggle that the characters go through, and it’ll be fun to really get into character. I’m most nervous about giving a serious performance, I really want to portray how brave the captain is, and all the struggles he goes through. This isn’t my first performance, but it is my most demanding yet, balancing the strong emotions and loving ones in the character. I’ve been working on the musical for about 3 months now but were very excited for everyone to come see!”
Alex Curry
“I play the character Von Schliben. I’m most excited to be up on stage, but I’m nervous to be up in front of everyone at the same time. This is my first musical, but I am liking it so far and hope to do it again one time. I joined just a few weeks ago but I’m already loving it!”
