Students at C. Milton Wright are diving into a world of books with the launch of the school’s reading challenge. This event has just kicked off and aims to foster a love of reading and improve literacy skills among students.
The reading challenge, organized by the school’s Library department, encourages students to read as many books as possible within a three-month period. Participants read as many books as they can, and must log their books on a forms document found in the library. The challenge is open to all students. Teachers are also getting involved by recommending their favorite books and tracking their own reading progress.
Mrs. Buckley said, “The Reading Challenge is a fun, and competitive way for students to show off their reading! We began the first of March and will read our way to the unofficial start of summer – Memorial Day weekend. Our grand prize winners get a basket of books from Barnes and Noble, and they will be the two students who have read the most books during the Challenge. There will also be a final raffle drawing for a basket of books as well. Students list their books on a Forms page and come in to pick up a treat as well as a raffle ticket each time they finish a book. So, lots of competition and fun as we read our way to summer!”
If reading isn’t your favorite activity, you may visit the library and recommend novels you’ve read. If people are having trouble choosing, you could put the name of the books on a colored card. The colored cards are for the genre the book is. This helps students at C. Milton Wright to pick a book if they are struggling to find one. In the process, you will receive raffle tickets from Mrs. Buckley and win prizes if your raffle is selected! Raffles will be drawn on Fridays with prizes from Dunkin Donuts, Dairy Queen, Barnes n Nobles, Rita’s and Wawa. Mrs. Buckley also said, “there will be a special raffle ticket drawing on April 25th which will be an opportunity to have the winners of that drawing spend time on the 30th of April with dogs from Pets on Wheels. The dogs will be here during lunch block 4/30 and there will be more than two tickets drawn on April 25th for this special event.” Also, there will be a special Seniors only drawing before they graduate on May 16th for the top two readers in the Senior Class.
With the reading challenge in full swing, C. Milton Wright is buzzing with literary excitement. As students continue to turn pages and explore new worlds, the school community is coming together to celebrate the power of reading.
