As seniors approach the end of their final year, anticipation and excitement begin to arise for their futures. This time is filled with a mixture of emotions as students prepare for a transition from a familiar lifestyle to unknown opportunities. While there is no way to prepare yourself fully for this new experience, C Milton Wright hosts military night and dual enrollment to help make the path clearer.
While everyone uses different mechanisms to help prepare themselves for this unfamiliar process, some of our very own mustangs share how they are preparing themselves. Aubrye Simms shares, “Something that has helped me prepare myself for college is talking to older friends who are currently enrolled in high school. This allows me to get a personal feel and honest opinion of necessities and expectations.” So, if you are someone who can reach out to someone who experienced this change, maybe reach out to them and see what you can gain and learn from their advice. Ava Lewis says, “For me, making a list of all the things I need to do and buy for college helps me prepare for college.” If this is something that you think could be beneficial for you, give it a try. If college isn’t the path you are taking after high school, C. Milton Wright holds military night which is hosted on February 19. Military night presents all the different branches of the military. Each branch presents a station that provides you with information about that specific branch. Dual enrollment is another option where you take classes at HCC and classes here at C. Milton Wright. This can help prepare you for how your college classes are going to be but also allows you to soak in your last year in high school.
As seniors prepare for this new chapter, these events that are provided can help this transition not be as intimidating, it can even spark a new interest in something they weren’t aware you we interested in before. Whether they choose to further their education, take on a career, travel, or explore other interests, these plans signify the beginning of their journey to adulthood.
