Snow days are nice, but in the back of my mind I’m always thinking about the missed school days, and how it affects our summer. Right now, we’ve missed four days due to snow and Harford County has six days until we’re allowed to go to virtual days but even then, it’s not guaranteed that we will be using virtual days if we use all 6 snow days.
According to the HCPS website, last year the policy was “Board of Education of Harford County approved the proposal to use up to three (3) asynchronous days in the event of inclement weather during the 2023-2024 school year.” Which meant we had three asynchronous days to use before they tacked days onto the summer. Everyone seems to agree, the old policy was better, so why’d they switch it?
Apparently, it was for “Technology access” problems and “Teacher/ Parent feedback”. This means teachers and parents of students in Harford County public schools voted on the issue and decided this was best.
