Everyone loves snowy days, but in Maryland, they’ve become rare so when it does snow, I like to go outside and enjoy it. But I’m always thinking about the extra days we have to make up. As soon as it started snowing, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, find the biggest hill near me, and go sledding with my friends. We were all texting and thought of the perfect place, in a neighborhood right next to one of our friends’ houses, there’s a giant hill that would be perfect for sledding. We gathered at his house and warmed up for a bit, to get ready for this long day we had ahead of us. After getting everything ready, we left the house and started walking. After 10 minutes, we reached the hill, and it was perfect. We were the only ones there which was nice. There were two different sections to sled on, and the snow was super deep. The first was calm. It was a short hill that leveled out, but only for a foot or two, then went back to a hill so it was perfect for making snow ramps. After an hour of sledding and snowboarding this hill, we decided to walk to the other section, which was crazy. It had three of the “jumps” and lead straight into the woods, so it was a lot scarier. I decided to go down the hill with my friend, on our inflatable sled and immediately regretted it. As soon as we hit the first jump in the hill, we went flying in the air and started to lean back, all I hear is my friends yelling “YOOO” as were falling, my friend lands on me as we hit the ground and my breath is gone, but it was still a lot of fun. After this, we sled for another hour or two, went back to my friend’s house, and drank some hot chocolate. After we got back to his house I was wondering, was this worth the extra day of school in the summer now? I was also thinking about what my other friends did today, so I decided to interview some of them, about their opinion on snow days, and how they spent them. These are the questions I asked.
Do you like snow days?
Would you rather have Asynchronous snow days, or tack them onto our summer?
How did you spend your snow days?
Tiffany
Yes, I like the extra time to relax and get caught up on schoolwork if I need, and I love playing with my dog in the snow.
Asynchronous snow days, because they were so easy freshman year, and I don’t like extra school in the summer.
I stayed home with my dog caught up on sleep and saw some friends.
Bailee:
Yes, I like snow days because they give us a break in the week, but I don’t like the actual snow.
I would rather have Asynchronous snow days because I could still enjoy the day, without extra school in summer.
I spent my snow day at work and hanging out with friends.
Drew:
I like sleeping in, but I do occasionally think about the lost summer days.
Tack the snow days onto the summer 100%. I hate async. I just relax with my dog and watch tv with my family.
