Are you a hopeless romantic but have never been in a relationship? Me too! Here are a few romance books to make you feel like you are experiencing love for the first time during this season of love.
Taking the number 10 spot is Say you Swear by Meagan Brandy, this book is a sport romance trope, and it is about your first love and the love after that. It’s about following your heart, even if you might not understand why. This book touches on everything that love is, from beginning to end. The reason this book isn’t higher is because it is a longer book and personally, I need a short and sweet read.
The number 9 spot is Happy Place by Emily Henry, this book follows ex-fiancés Harriet, a conflict-avoidant surgical resident, and Wyn, a quick-witted charmer who dances through life. They share a group of close friends that, for the last decade, have scheduled an annual getaway to a small cottage in Maine as a respite from their daily lives. I love a lot of Emily Henry’s books, but this one started off a little slow, it took me a little to get into it.
8 spot is going to Picking Daisies on a Sunday by Liana Cincotti, this book is Perfect for fans of Lynn Painter and Jenny Han, this romantic comedy follows a hopeless romantic finishing college who agrees to embark on a fake relationship with her childhood best friend, who, unfortunately for her, also happens to be her first love. This book caught my eye because of the childhood best friend trope, I mean it must be one of my favorites to read. I am currently reading this book, and I am loving it so far. Once I’m finished, I’m sure this will be higher on my ranking.
Taking the number 7 spot is The Summer I turned Pretty series by Jenny Han it is about a coming-of-age story about love, friendship, and growing up. Belly is a relatable character who is struggling to figure out who she is and what she wants. She is also dealing with the complicated relationships she has with Conrad and Jeremiah. It was also turned into a TV series in summer of 2022, the books are 100% better though. These books are a classic, the only reason they aren’t higher is that they are for more of a middle school.
Coming in at number 6 is Daydream by Hannah Grace, this book is a story about love; love for your family, friendships, relationships and most importantly love for yourself. Daydream is the follow up book in the Maple Hills Series by Hannah Grace, you may be familiar with her previous works Icebreaker and Wildfire that caught the world by storm! This is a book I read with a friend in 12 hours for a challenge. It was a great book, it kept me entertained but we did pull an all nightery, so my memory of the book is a bit blurry.
And we are on to the top 5, taking the number 5 spot is This summer will be different by Carley Fortune it is about the protagonist, Lucy, who frequently vacations on Prince Edward Island (PEI) with her best friend Bridget, who grew up there. Her first time visiting the island she has a hot hook-up with a handsome, local man named Felix. It is a nice quick read.
Number 4 is going to be a book by Laura Nowlin called If only I had told her. This book is a very heartwarming story that focuses on love, the power of forgiveness, and mainly loss and what it can do to a person. It follows the story of a girl, Autumn Davis, who must deal with the regret of not expressing her true feelings before it was too late. This book is a second part to If he had been with me, if he had been with me is the POV of Autum and If only I had told her is in the POV of Finny and Jack.
Taking the number 3 spot is If he had been with me by Laura Nowlin, I just talked about this book because the second book took 4th place. This is such a heart wrenching book about the true feelings that come to a person when a loss occurs, whether that loss is definite or indefinite. The story follows the life of Autumn and Phineas “Finny,” childhood best friends who used to be inseparable but who grew apart as they grew up. It was an amazing book I was just a wreck at the end.
Number 2 spot is being given to Better than the movies, Liz Buxbaum is hoping to find romance with her old crush, Michael, during senior year. She’s a huge fan of romcom films, a passion she shared with her screenwriter mom, who died several years ago. Liz imagines any potential romance considering her favorite movies. It is a great book portraying a teen romance.
Finally, being crowned the number 1 spot is The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther. Meredith Fox has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember. But this summer is the first one back since the death of Meredith’s sister. It will all be overwhelming, but even more since the entire extended family will be together for her cousin’s big wedding. Unfortunately, Meredith’s longtime boyfriend unexpectedly dumped her two weeks before the wedding, leaving her dateless. Luckily, she has the perfect distraction. Her family has a tradition of playing the ultimate game of Assassin every summer, and this year it will take place during the week of wedding festivities. But her target just happens to be a very cute groomsman. She’s determined to not let herself get distracted, not let herself be lost in another doomed relationship. But as the week progresses, she can’t help falling for him, which may cost her not only the game, but also her heart. This is a pretty long book but I finished I 2 days, after I finished I couldn’t stop telling everyone about it. So many good plot twists
