I didn’t like Smile 1 very much, so I went into Smile 2 very skeptical, but I have to say I found smile 2 a very pleasant surprise. Smile 2 follows Skye Riley, a popstar planning a career comeback after getting in a drug-induced car crash that killed her boyfriend and severely injured her back. Attempting to get medicine for her back, she runs into the smile entity now controlling her drug dealer, Lewis Fregoli, who acts erratically the entire time she is there and eventually has a seizure and then smashes his head in with a barbell. It’s from there that Skye is infected by the smile demon
I will say that the movie expertly hits its nightmarish tone when it needs to, and a lot of the movie after she is infected truly feels like a nightmare. The movie also handles the popstar element very well and I like the way it shows that Skye very much resents her fame and all the sorrow it has brought her.
The ending of the movie fully teases the sequel, and it sets up Smile 3 very well. Which I am now excited to see. Overall, I would recommend Smile 2.
