I don’t know about you, but I am completely in shock from part 2 of season 4. No one could’ve prepared me for what the last 5 episodes had in store.
In my part 1 review last month I talked a lot about how JJ was a star in season 4 so far. Now that part 2 is out I can say that I still agree with that statement. JJ has been a big part of OBX but has been getting the most screen time and big moments this season.
One of the big moments at the end of part 1 was JJ being told that his father (Luke Maybank) was not his biological father, and his biological father was Chandler Groff who they had been sort of working for in part 1. Sadly, Chandler turned out to be a worse dad than Luke ever was, which says a lot. In part 2 JJ feels like he never fit in with Luke and that something was missing. With that he allows Groff to manipulate him. It was hard to watch him fall for Groff’s tricks so easily, but I also understand because he just wanted to be loved by his father.
Groff’s tricks sadly lead to a tragic path, even though JJ has done many reckless things before, that could’ve led to tragic things happening all the time, so I thought it was just going to be another crazy JJ moment, but Season 4 had other plans. I was so shocked to see Groff stab his own son, not that I didn’t think he would do it, but I was just so surprised to see that JJ was dead. One of the core 4 was actually gone. I was trying to figure out how there was going to be a season 5 without JJ but then it hit me, it makes perfect sense that JJs death is going to fuel last mission in season 5.
After season four’s sad ending I am still holding out hope for the last and final season, season 5.
