What is the Academic team? While the name may make it seem like a swanky club for
straight A students, like a national honor society, the truth is the academic team is more
like a sports team, where anyone can do well, and schools compete against each other.
The Academic team focuses on trivia, with students answering questions about math,
biology, physics, history, geography, art, drama, literature, sports, and many other
fields. Questions are in a quick time format similar to quiz bowl, testing what students
can recall on memory, with the exception of complex math, which usually allows more
time.
Why should you join the academic team? The academic team is a good outlet for
students to utilize their knowledge outside of a school environment, focusing on topics
that wouldn’t ever come up in a school curriculum. This allows students to expand their
capabilities and academic interests, while also supporting their school on a team with
others, with a team dynamic pushing each other to do better and expand their
preexisting comprehension of a topic.
Academic team players not only practice every week, but also participate in scrimmages
and tournaments against other schools throughout the year. C Milton Wright’s academic
team has been the county champion for two consecutive years, with the team hoping to
go victorious three years in a row and preparing for this year’s tournaments.
In order to maintain our title and engrave our names on the county trophy for a third
year, we implore all students who feel they could contribute to attend meetings,
compete in tournaments, and most of all, to join the team.
Meetings are in room 222 with Mr. James from 2:15-3:30 on Wednesdays.
