Harford County is a very busy and popular county that many people live in. Our county features single-family homes, townhouses, condos, apartments, and much more. There are many attractions, especially around the town of Bel Air: restaurants, movie theaters, malls, stores, and towns to walk through. Schools are everywhere with children of all ages, families enjoying the town, and small businesses setting up fairs and markets. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? What about the bad? Are we becoming too overcrowded?
Harford County is known for being a very safe and nice place to live. It has become a very popular area to live. Harford County has many activities for kids, adults, and teens. It features many different stores and restaurants. As more people want to start living in this area, there becomes a higher demand for homes. New apartments have been built in the Harford County area to accommodate this growing population.
Peak Management Company has built new 1,2, and 3 bedroom apartments right on 543, only a few blocks from C. Milton Wight. These apartments can be found right by the Hickory Bypass, next to the new Taco Bell and the Royal Farms. These apartments will feature many amenities, including a fitness center, swimming pool, dog park and much more. Children living in these apartments will be districted to local schools, Hickory Elementary School, Southampton Middle School, and C. Milton Wright High School, increasing the number of students that will be in those schools.
Is the increase of apartments something to look forward to? Something to be worried about? The growing number of apartments is great for families looking to move to the area but could affect the population already here. How will the county respond to this growing population?
Some community residents of Harford County have shared their thoughts about the new apartments, and their views since they have moved here.
“I have been a resident in Harford County for about 20 years now. I have lived in a developed neighborhood with my family for about 16 years now, and the population has seen an increase. The number of people that have moved here has caused more people in jobs and schools. As well as the increase of apartment complexes that bring in people, has also developed our town and stores, as there have been many new stores in and out, with new shopping developments created.”
“We moved here from Bowie, known for being a crowded city. It has been disappointing watching all the construction and buildings pop up, as Bel Air has started to become more populated. Crossing the Hickory Bypass is something that I do not look forward to, as it is going to get much busier with the two new apartment complexes right around there.”
“I have been living in Harford County for many years. I lived in Edgewood for about 40 years, and then recently moved to the Fallston area. When I first moved here, not many people and stores were here, and there has been a large increase. Although there has been an increase in people, the increase of resources has also soared. The number of new stores and opportunities makes for a great new social aspect, especially as I have raised my own children and my grandchildren in the Harford County area.”
