Dr. Bulson is the superintendent of Harford County Public Schools. He entered this job on July 1st, 2018, and has become a big part of our school system and has done so much to advance our district. Dr. Bulson is a very large part of our community and is on many boards for Harford County. He is the President of PSSAM (Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland). He is a governing board member of AASA (American Association of School Administrators), a member of the CASBHC (Maryland Council on the Advancement of School-Based Health Centers) and an executive committee member of HBRT (Harford Business Roundtable). Dr. Bulson is also a member on many other boards and has a huge impact on how our county schools run.
Bulson was presented the Maryland Superintendent of the Year Award at the ceremony on November 2, 2023. He was awarded this in Ocean City at the Maryland Negotiation Service Conferences 2023. He was named by the Public Schools Superintendents’ Association of Maryland. Dr. Bulson has been described as “smart, fair, honest” by Jeffery A. Lawson the Cecil County Public Schools super intendent.
He has the heart to put in the work with kids throughout the county to help make the Harford County Public Schools system the best that he can! Dr. Bulson makes sure to get around to each school and pop into classes, as some students have seen him come into their different classes such as Spanish, English, Math, and Science! 1.Have you ever interacted with Dr. Bulson? If so, how was it?
I have had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Bulson on several occasions. I have found Dr. Bulson to be a student centered leader. He, at times, likes to have fun with staff.
2. What qualities does he have that make him the person to win this award?
The qualities that make him the person to win this award is his resolve to enact change where change is needed and to highlight what is working well.
3.What changes do you think he is going to make to HCPS following this win, which shows the highlights of his career?
I don’t feel as if he will make any new sweeping changes. I think he will allow himself some time to enjoy this well deserved award and then he will get back to the job at hand and continue to lead HCPS.
