Must Watch Shows of 2022

Alexis Hamilton

In the late months of 2021 leading into 2022 some amazing shows have graced their way onto our TV screens. Some of which were already popular, some brand new, giving our brains a sense of freshness. Some of the shows that I will be reviewing involve subject matter that I would categorize as PG-13 or Rated R. The titles include: Arcane, Euphoria, and The Witcher.

Euphoria, an HBO original series first aired on June 16th, 2019; fans have waited three long years for the first episode of season 2 to come out. Zendaya reclaiming her main character as Rue, along with some beloved actors of the franchise, Sydney Sweeney (Cassie), Alexa Demie (Maddy), Hunter Schafer (Jules), Barbie Ferreira (Kat), Jacob Elordi (Nate), and Angus Cloud (Fez). The show takes a hyper realistic look on the inside of what it’s like to be a teenager. Topics of substance abuse, parties, abusive relationships, and trauma being put on full blast. People even claim it isn’t realistic at all. To which I think and must ask, have you ever been to high school? There are many things your kids keep under wraps. This show isn’t afraid to air all of that out, portraying realistic people who experience even more realistic trauma. The content is relatable and sticks with viewers, it’s an intense but great watch.

Arcane (a Netflix original) was released on November 6th, 2021. This action-packed show is based off the lane-based game, League of Legends. The show does not disappoint, coming equipped with a cast of characters that makes it hard to hate them. By the end of the first season, I found myself wanting each character to achieve all their hopes and dreams, even if it seemed unachievable. There is no “good” or “bad” character. The backgrounds that are shown of their lives allow the viewer to experience the characters trauma with a beautiful new-age art style. This cyber-punk esc show is one you can’t pass up, the fantasy world that encases this show will have anyone wanting to be a part of it.

The Witcher

The Witcher (another Netflix original) season 2 released December 17th, 2021, the first season released December 20th, 2019. This show is roughly based on the 8-book series and the three game installments, two expansion packs, and three spin-off games. Henry Cavill takes on the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, bringing the brain and brawn to this already dark character. Witcher’s are people who were fed elixirs to enhance their powers, essentially, they are monster hunters who are paid with coin for their services. These humanoid people are known to have no feelings, in the show though Geralt goes through multiple journeys which will test that fact. A fantasy show filled with monsters, witches, warlocks, and Witcher’s is one no one should pass up on. Can the white wolf Geralt reclaim a small piece of humanity, or is he doomed to be the monster someone created?
