Who is Going to Be Crowned the College Football National Champions

College football is always full of unpredictability, especially this year. Coming off of COVID-19, there has been a lot of uncertainty for teams. The typical prospects like Clemson, Oklahoma, and Ohio State have struggled and have not secured a spot in the top 4. These spots open up the door for new programs like Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, and Michigan to make a run. The battle for the last couple of spots all comes down to the conference championships on Saturday, December 4th.

After chaos from this past weekend, spots in the college football playoff are up for grab. On championship Saturday, Cincinnati battles Houston for the American Championship, Georgia plays Alabama for the SEC title, and Michigan plays Iowa for the Big Ten championship.

Georgia: The Georgia Bulldogs have been breezing through teams. Stetson Bennet has been a dominant quarterback for the bulldogs by producing 1985 passing yards. They are backed up by their strong defense who averages giving up 7 points a game.

Michigan: The Michigan Wolverines have a strong defense led by DE Aidan Hutchinson. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has led the Wolverines to his first win against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Beating the Buckeyes provides a lot of momentum for their team going into Saturday.

Alabama: The Alabama Crimson Tide has been the most consistent team in college football. Every year they continue to reload their dynasty. Nick Saban is one of the best coaches in college football and he is alongside Heisman candidate Bryce Young.

Cincinnati: After having a Cinderella season in 2020, the Cincinnati Bearcats are looking for more. The Bearcats were robbed of a spot in the College Football Playoff last year and are looking for revenge. Head coach Luke Fickell and Cincinnati are hoping to be undefeated going into selection Sunday.

There are lots of predictions of who is going to win the college football championship. I asked students at C. Milton Wright which team they thought is going to win the college football national championships. The results are as followed…

Georgia: 7 votes

Alabama: 3 votes

Michigan: 2 votes

Cincinnati: 2 votes

Other: 0 votes

The selection committee will meet Sunday, December 5th to decide which teams are in the top 4 in the country. The crowning of the national champion will be on January 10th, 2022.
