This season the boys took longer to get going in regard to their scoring ability, but Coach Tully says the team is taking the, “right turn at the right time”, and he’s right. The season is coming to an end very soon with only two games left. Salesianum on Thursday and John Carroll on Saturday. After that, it’s on to playoffs.

Last night the Mustangs had a game against Patterson Mill. Both teams had to travel to Harford Tech because Patterson Mill is in the process of getting turf. During the first half, the Huskies were able to keep pace with the Mustangs with it being 1-1, until a long ball is played to Grayson Hichkad with 40 seconds left. Hichkad was able to hit a volley, threading the needle passed the keeper near post, the half ending 2-1. The second half went differently. The boys kept the ball on Patterson Mill’s side majority of the second half and put in another goal, securing the 3-1 win

The game against Salesianum would be just as challenging as Curly, if not more. Salesianum scored in the first 10 minutes with a hard shot ball to the bottom left corner. Keeper, Zach Hetrick, said that there were so many people in the way he couldn’t see where the ball was going. This game had the potential to be a rough one. The half ended 0-1. While Coach Tully was talking to the team at half, he stated that this felt a lot like a game in the past with Salesianum, where they were down 3-1 at half, tied it up 3-3 in the second, and lost in double overtime on an own goal. The coaches believed that the team could come back and win this game. The second half begun, and the teams were evenly matched for a while. Eventually, Salesianum scored two more goals securing their win over the Mustangs.

The boys next game would be a weekend day game against John Carroll. The Mustangs scored early on with a solid header from senior defender, Nick Dunny-Maiese. Despite the boys being up 1-0, they weren’t playing very well, and the coaches let them know during half. The coaches knew their team could be playing much better. The second half begun, and the team already looked better, eventually scoring two more goals to guarantee them the win.

Winning the John Carroll game put the team in the number two seed for playoffs. The boys will play Edgewood on Wednesday and if they win that they play Bel Air on Friday. The post season has just begun…
