Basketball is a face pace, intense game. Therefore, the training can be very hardcore and challenging. The team started after school conditioning last Monday, and certain member say they, “feel as if (they) are running for the cross-country team”. The team runs 5+ miles a day, with push-ups and other strength and quickness drills. Soreness can be expected after every workout, and the team hasn’t even started in the gym yet. It is a commitment and it is not easy. The team can be found after school till 7:00 every day with conditioning, study hall, and then a hard practice after. The first day of tryouts, prospective members have to run the 6minute mile, and 14 minute 2 miles. These time constraints are strict and are one of the, “make or break” factors for being on the team. However, with all the vigorous training done beforehand, the task at hand comes less daunting than it appears. After the miles, the team come back in the gym to do more conditioning and agility drills to see where each prospective member stands as an all-around athlete, measuring our vertical jump, quickness, and more.
