During this holiday season many things brings family and friends but one of the most important characteristics of these get together is the food. And the best part of the meal, of course, is the dessert. Buckeye cookies have long been seen as a Christmas treat, their sweet chocolate taste balanced with peanut butter gives these cookies an irresistible taste.

Here is just one of the many recipes to create these famous holiday cookies:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1⁄2 cups peanut butter
  • 1 1⁄2 cups butter
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1⁄2 cups chocolate chips
  • Crisco

Directions:

  • Mix peanut butter, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla in large bowl until smooth
  • Shape into 1″ balls.
  • Refrigerate balls until firm (30-35 minutes).
  • Meanwhile, melt chocolate with a bit of crisco (so the chocolate will harden. Without crisco, chocolate will remain soft.) and stir chocolate until smooth.
  • Insert toothpick into refrigerated balls and dip into chocolate, leaving small area resembling a buckeye at the top of the cookie
  • Cool on wax paper and store in refrigerator or freezer.
